Day #3 of my top 25 hard rock/metal songs of 2012! We’re taking on #15 – 19 today; you can check out round 1 (#21 – 25) and round 2 (#16 – 20) of the five-part list as well.
15. Candlelight Red – Demons.
I love Candlelight Red’s four-song EP (also called Demons), and this is my favorite tune off of it. It’s got a great beat without losing its hard rock edge, and vocalist Ryan Hoke has an extremely sexy voice. I’m really looking forward to hearing more from these guys.
14. Down – Witchtripper.
I will never stop loving Phil Anselmo’s voice. They made a cool old school horror film style music video to accompany a great song.
13. Pop Evil – Purple.
A bit more low-key than most of my other choices, but it’s a beautiful song, and also really really catchy. I was supposed to catch Pop Evil in Nashville during the Trespass America tour, but since this was the only one of their songs with which I had prior familiarity, and because my real reason for being there was to see the object of My Obsession (ooh, see what I did there) Killswitch Engage, I ended up missing their set. It’s not Super F-ing Metal, but I love it! Besides, as attested to by my hair color, I’m partial to the color purple.
12. Converge – Trespasses.
The fact that this song isn’t ranked higher is a testament to how many awesome singles came out this year. It gets me hyped up every time I listen. As I noted on my top 10 albums list, where Converge’s All We Love cracked the top 5, the band’s unbelievable live performances take the recorded versions of their songs to a new level. But clearly, the studio version of “Trespasses” is hardcore/metal brilliance at its finest.
11. Halestorm – I Miss The Misery.
As I mentioned in a post this summer, this was the song that finally sold me on Halestorm. It’s a powerful song that showcases that Lzzy Hale (not to mention the rest of the band) is genuinely talented, in addition to being absurdly hot.
P.S. If you are in the Atlanta area, you should definitely come to Smith’s Olde Bar tonight for American Aquarium, with The Quaildogs and The Pollies opening. This is going to be an incredible night of live music!
